Another Mini Practice Update
The offense looked very good, moved the ball consistently. Morelli was very crisp along with the offense as a whole. Believe that Morelli is going to have a big year. Have to qualify the offensive success by saying the defense was pretty much playing one scheme and the offense had most likely had gotten used to playing against that scheme.
Austin Scott and Rodney Kinlaw both had long runs. Scott looks much leaner and seems poised to have a great year. Mentioned that there was a freshmen rb whom he was impressed with. Surprised when it turned out it was Joe Suhey. Also mentioned how legit Stephfon Greens speed is.
He praised the OL, see very little worries there from the projected starters, especially the interior. He said AQ moves great and is very strong. Rich Ohrnberger is 'ohrnery 'and just plain nasty. Mentioned John Shaw as being big, strong and mobile. Wisniewski is very smart, and is a back up at center, and might also see time at guard. He wasn't able to watch much of Cadogan.
On the defense, he said Maurice Evans and Ollie Ogbu really impressed him. They have nonstop motors. Was also impressed with Abe Karoma. Has a base that is incredible and really hard to move. Said Aaron Maybin has good pass rush skills but struggles against the run at the point of attack.
The LBs were studs top to bottom. The regulars stood out, but he also thinks Chris Colasanti is going to be great eventually in the middle. Said he looks about 6'3. Said Jerome Hayes is a freak and thinks he'll break out this year. T Sales, looked very good, lanky and lean.
More to come.

Hey, any update that our o-line is holding up in practice is a good update.
The only thing that worries me is the Joe Suhey comments. With all due respect, because I really appreciate practice updates, when somebody is saying Joe Suhey looks good at RB, I have to question whether or not this observer has been drinking Kool-Aid.
I admit that I know as little as the next guy, but I'm not a believer that a skinny 6'2, 190lbs kid, with zero other offers, and who didn't even play tailback in high school on top that, is showing off in practice against a division I defense.
Otherwise, Suhey is one hell of an athlete whom everybody was wrong about.

PBR, no worries about Suhey getting any pt in the near future.... It was just one of those things where the kid caught the observers eye and he was surprised it was a Suhey....He probably wouldn'have mentioned if it was some other down on the depth chart kid.

suhey is one hell of an athlete. There is no reason to believe that he won't contribute at some point in his career. Not only did he stand out on the football field but was all conference in hoops. People were down on Norwood also and were very wrong. PSU has had great success with standout high school basketball players on their football team. He has the right last name as well.

What basketball players does PSU have great success with? Norwood, who else? Suhey's another family legacy whos gonna ride the pine and waste a scholly. The only legacy that may pan out in the future, is Mike Zorich. Only because he's gonna be a linebacker.

You don't like Mauti or Wiz?

Not sure about Mauti. He's got some decent offers of big time programs. But not sold on him. I did forget about Wiz though. He could be a good one just based on pure upbringing. The OL coaching bothers me though.

LOL, your not sold on Mauti? Give me a fucking break. Thanks for proving your ignorance for the umptenth million time

If Leo is confident that his son will encounter good OL coaching, then that's a great sign to me.

I'm afraid that you're wrong about legacies, as Stefan is already impressing....and it's Zordich btw.

I hope your right about Wiz. I forgot about him. He could be a good one. But no, Im not wrong about legacies. Most of them are a waste of a scholly. And sorry for the spelling of Zordich. If that bothers you, you need to get a life.

Ever hear of a kid named Ethan Kilmer ?!?!?

Yes, there IS a reason to believe that he won't contribute. He has marginal measureables and no other big time offers. Just because Jordan Norwood ended up being a solid player does not mean that Joe will also. I obviously think the cards are stacked against Joe and the chances that he does not contribute are greater than him being a significant player. Nothing against the kid, and I am routing like hell for him ... I guess I just disagree with your comment that "there is no reason to believe that he won't contribute".

Norwood was a complete surprise to everyone involved.
He's by far the exception to the rule.

what does the DT rotation look like for the opener?
Reply to this
I'd guess it's something like this:
Taylor Koroma Odrick McEowen Ogbu
I am probably missing someone though.

baker should be in there still too, right? we don't know if they are out for the first game or not.
Reply to this
oh, and i don't think Taylor is going to be able to play in the opener due to injury.

Penn... I would expect the first four to be Koroma, Odrick, Baker & Ogbu. I doubt Big Phil is going to be ready by then.

then we are in complete agreement

LOL, thought you had asked the initial question. Yes we are indeed in complete agreement.

I didn't put Baker in the rotation because his status is unknown still isn't it?
I like our DL. It's loaded with talent and very deep. the people who are afraid based on the 2003 season have to realize that the team was playing a DE at DT, and there was no depth behind them.

I'm pretty sure Green had a game in high school where he rushed for 300+ yards and 5 Tds on six carries! Absolutely freakish. I think he was only give 3 stars by the powers that be but he seems to have potential to be an all-american talent.

Good stuff. What about Royster?

Wow Jason you are 2 for 2 tonight on statements that make no sense. Mauti doesn't impress you?? Watch his video, it is as impressive as any HS LB I've seen this year on video. He plays very well in traffic, takes on and sheds blockers and makes many plays in traffic. When given a clear run at the ball carrier, game over, he seeks and destroys instantly. My only concern with him is his recurring foot injuries. If he overcomes those he will be a big time star at PSU.

eagle1 - You are spot on about Mauti! Without his foot injuries I would have bet that he finished with a Top 10 LB ranking in the country. Barring injuries he will be the best LB of the 3 PSU has recruited for 2008!
