It is time Joe. Free Andrew Quarless
The point has been made Joe. Andrew Quarless has been sufficiently punished for his transgression. He was forced to sit out the season opener as well as the biggest and most visible game of Penn State's season to date. Quarless has been a good soldier and has been the most visible PSU cheerleader in Beaver Stadium outside of the Nittany Lion himself. He hasn't hung his head and hasn't dwelled on his mistake. It is not like Quarless has felony charges pending or was arrested for a DUI midseason here. He certainly was in the wrong while receiving his underage drinking citation along with Willie Harriot and has paid plenty for it.
It has gotten to the point where this punishment is beginning to look vindictive and petty, especially when you compare it to other punishments doled out by Joe Paterno in recent years for off field issues. No one is stating that Quarless is an angel but enough is enough here. Get the kid back on the field Joe.
The necessity for Quarless getting back on the field was clearly evident again against Notre Dame. It is no coincidence that PSU utilized such a conservative and vanilla game plan for that game. With all due respect to Mickey Shuler, he isn't going to require any special scheming for opposing defensive coaches. And that isn't even mentioning Shuler's blocking efforts. The PSU staff played it safe in many instances against ND because they knew that they had no threat from the TE position in the middle of the field.
Andrew Quarless is Anthony Morelli's security blanket and will provide an entire new dimension for the Penn State offense. Quarless's presence alone will be good for 30 more rushing yards a game and 100 more passing yards a game. Opposing teams will be paying tons of attention to Quarless the second that he steps onto the field. The kid is that talented. Quarless playing should pay immediate dividends as more running lanes will be opened and WRs will have even more free space to make plays in the passing game. All that should be left is for Morelli to choose which weapon to utilize.
The ball is in Joe Paterno's court here. Rumors have been trickling out that Quarless may see action this Saturday for the Buffalo game. Lets all hope that this is the case as this has gone on long enough. Now instead of just punishing Andrew Quarless, Joe Paterno is punishing all of his teammates and hindering the progress and improvement of the offense. As PSU heads into Big 10 play they need to be firing on all cylinders. Penn State hasn't beaten Michigan in seemingly a million years and needs all the weapons at their disposal to win that game and to have those weapons ready to play a complete football game. The only way that Andrew Quarless will fit that bill is to get back on the field this weekend and get real game reps against Buffalo.
Please Joe, for the good of all it is not time to be stubborn on this one. Release the shackles and get your franchise TE back in the fold. If you want to win a very winnable Big 10 title, you need him back NOW.

As I said in the other thread, this is absurd. If he doesn't play Saturday, Joe better check into the farm, he has taken this beyond anything reasonable as it is.

Not really any reason to call Joe out, I too have noticed that Quarless 'seems' to be showing the right attitude and is cheering on his teammates; but he did this to himself. He probably won't start against Buffalo, but I'm sure he will be worked in during the 1st quarter and continue to play through the 2nd Quarter. By that time all the offensive starters should be out. I hope for a lot of time for Eliades [If he is alright from the concussion?], Nerraw McCormick, Ako Poti, and so on. We need to get these guys some quality reps, and begin to protect ourselves heading into the Big Ten schedule because if a Tackle goes down we will be screwed. The competition obviously isn't great, but game reps will help.
Also, for those who continue to bash Morelli [not much here, but still] - Why do you think he was so pissed about Quarless? This offense has the chance to be special, and Quarless had to dick around. Not only will we probably see Bell, Norwood, Butler, Williams in empty sets with Quarless; but he is such a threat that surely Morelli will benefit.
I continue to say we have yet to see what the meat & potatoes of this offense is, so far we have seen practically nothing and that is a good thing - we haven't needed to do more. Our offense has been to pound Austin Scott inside, and while he is doing a bang up job of it; we should be trying to get him on the edges more because the strength of our offensive line [interior] isn't doing a damn thing. There are rarely holes, and when there are they aren't where they should be. This is where Eliades would have helped, having a nasty run blocker - show some life guys.
BTW, your bias is very evident - I want Quarless back as much as anyone but like Joe said, he isn't going to come out and say you are the starter and give him a hug. Quarless should just be happy that he has 5x the talent Shuler does and will be able to win the job out right with 1 or 2 plays. It may have looked better if you would have made the same argument for Harriot, because I'm sure he would be on special teams.

Typical Joe:
Assaulting an off duty police officer doesn't get you pulled from the field.
Going into an apartment you shouldn't be in and throwing some punches doesn't get you pulled either. Just some extra cleaning duty on Sundays.
Yet prank calling Jerry Sandusky will get you 3 games, and apparently having a few cups of wine will get you a few games as well.
I remember a former PSU player getting a DUI and Joe making light of the situation; Joe plays favorites soo bad it's not even funny.
This is about as dumb as having LJ on the bench for all those years; or playing Zach Mills when he had no arm; or lining up Derrick Williams behind center.
Things like this are why we won't land Pryror.... Hope Joe is happy; because I'm sure not

If you'll recall, Rashard Casey was acquitted of that "assault" and the cop was later revealed to have been drunk and hurling racial epithets that night, instigating the entire incident.
The prank calls were to Joe Sarra, not Sandusky.
If you're going to hurl stones, at least pick the right ones...

Thank You jw. There is so much bickering on the site its ridiculous. Is this what it's like on the "premium boards"? because if so continue to not pay for them.

Let's see, where to begin?
1) Let's remove a kid from the field and make him guilty until presumed innocent. Joe teaches these kids things, not just about football but about life. Turns out the kid was aquitted of all charges...pulling him from the field would have been a real show of support.
2) How many charges still stand from the apartment thing? If I recall, almost all the major charges have been dropped for lack of evidence. Yep, let's really punish kids for something they are not even going to court for because of no evidence.
3) It wasn't Sandusky...it was a lack of respect, and if you ask that player now, he'll tell you it's the best thing that ever happened to him. As for the wine...it wasn't the wine. It was the fact he had been warned 3 other times about being out past curfew, and when you have a 7:30am meeting followed by 2 practices that day, being out til 2 or 3 am is against team policy. He earned the suspension and has taken it like a man. He has not pouted one iota, thus the reason he's going to play on Saturday.
4) Yes, TJ was wrong, and Joe was completely wrong. He got grilled by the press, and by the fans.
5) LJ was on the bench because his attitude sucked. Mills played becuase Robinson wasn't ready to be a QB since he was focusing on other positions...to help the team. I guess Arkansas shouldn't line up Darren McFadden at QB anymore, or GT line up Tashard Choice either.
Don't be so sure about Pryor, I'm hearing he absolutely loved the visit and the atmosphere.
But there's never going to be appeasing fans like you firejaypa...when Joe's gone, I'm sure you'll say, why can't we do it like Joe did!

If you were Pryor, would you come to Penn State? IDK if I would...

the prank calling you are referring to must be in reference to Dan Connor..but I don't believe it was Jerry Sandusky that was the victim of these calls... I think it was Joe Serra (sp)
Reply to this
Connor wasn't calling Sandusky...he was calling Joe Sarra, who is in poor health and was a much beloved coach.
As for Quarless, Joe had no choice. After the fight scene and consequences, a "ZERO TOLERANCE" policy was put into effect. Had Quarless been drinking prior to the fight and been cited, he wouldn't have missed a second of playing time. But, since the whole team knew there was zero tolerance in effect and a team member broke the law, consequences had to be meted out.

You'll get your wish. According to a player I talked to after the game, Quarless and Harriott will play against Buffalo.
this player did not specify if AQ would start just that he'd play. The TE blocking has been nothing short of atrocious, and the dropped pass that Shuler had (it was going to be a tough catch but he should have had it) opened staff's eyes.
Reply to this
I have been told not to expect AQ to start, but enter game in second quarter. Hopefully Coach Paterno becomes anxious as I to get him on the field, and AQ is in sooner.

AQ is perhaps the most single important receiver we have in a week or so. Use him to exploit the middle of the field, and keep the safeties from making a bee-line towards our WR's. One TE Seam or post, even if incomplete should put the seed in English's mind that PSU can and will use the middle.
This will open up everything else, and also keep Michigan from putting 8 in the box and hopefuly keep them in a cover 2 so we can effectively run and then set up a PA on a first down that goes for a big gainer.

With disciplinary issues, I'll go with Joe on this. I'm sure he'll do whats best for the team and the individual. If AQ has learnt his lesson, he will do everything and more that is asked of him and try to work his way back into the lineup. I hope he does - he is a tremendous talent.
AQ and Bell are 2 players on the offensive side who can REALLY make things happen. The pass to Bell against ND (credit to Morelli too of course), and him run with it for a good amount of YAC , dragging an ND player along for a few yards was just a thing of beauty. It was just electric!
It's players like these who will make the offense, QB, and playcalling look great!!
Don't get me wrong, I love all our receivers - Norwood Surehands , Neon Deon , D-Will, Terell

Just saw the depth chart for the Buffalo game and Quarless is still not listed. I'm not sure if I believe he'll definitely not play but it doesn't look good at this point. I'm hoping he'll be back to play scUM.
Reply to this
Quarless will play.
Depth charts pre-game mean squat....almost as much as stuff that Joe says in his PC's.

I'm just going by the last two depth charts for the previous games. He wasn't listed on those and didn't play. Hope he does this time though.

He's going to play this week so stop whining. This was a waste

Yeah, I'm not really what the point of this post was. Everybody in the world seemed to know that Quarless would be back this week or next week, and Paterno confirmed as much this morning.

not sure either - just listen to joes presser - its all there

Yea, Joe is wrong sometimes, as we all are. But he's right more times than most of would be under the circumstances. This whine-fest is not a very good indicator of the value of this site.

Once again this site is a day late and a dollar short on knowing what everyone else seems to. Oh boy I can't wait for the next News Flash here. Maybe it will be Joe is well enough to run out of the tunnel for Buffalo.

Yet you keep coming here looking for something. What might that be?

Hey carol I mean SC. I thought you were leaving and deleting our site. This board has done a great job providing a lot of information in a very short time period. So be a Man or women of your word and move on. Phil misses his servants go back to BWI.

For all of you clowns busting on the original post.
AIW-HS made his post the evening of 9/10.
Joe's presser was midday 9/11.
All you clowns are piling on in the evening of 9/11.
(1) You're plain wrong to criticize HowardStern.
(2) If you're so bright, let see you guys post.

I wasn't bashing, I was just pointing out that there is a clear bias towards getting AQ2 on the field as opposed to getting Willie Harriot back onto the football field. Nothing really wrong with that I guess, but it is clear as day. I know as much as anybody how much we need Quarless and how valuable he will be to our offense, but if we could please stop acting as if this is something Joe "did" to him...but rather what the kid did to himself that would be great. You can look and say well Scirrotto started and Quarless is getting different treatment...you are probably right.
I'm sure Joe talked to Scirrotto and feels that some of the situation was out of his control, while Quarless knew what he was doing...has tested the rules a few times and put his teammates in a bad position. What Quarless and Harriot did after the much publicized "fight" just continued to put the program and the players in a bad light. He had a choice, and he didn't choose to take the rules seriously enough...he has payed - all is well and now we get on with it. Kudos to Quarless/Harriot for taking it like men and not complaining like most of us fans have, they knew they got what they had coming to them.

Stern has a lot of girlfriends to defend him. Why am I hear? Everyone stops to see an messy accident like this one.

Carol, your butchery of the English language is appaling (not to be confused with "appealing").
Taken from dictionary.com:
Hear:
To perceive by the ear.
Ex: Didn't you hear the doorbell?
Here:
In this place; in this spot or locality.
Ex: Put the pen here.

Carol - Checked stats for the Jets defense to confirm number of tackles you reported that Poz has, and he isn't even listed. Did he get traded elsewhere or cut?
Reply to this
ummm... Pos plays for the Bills...why would you disgrace him by saying he plays for the jets...and he had 9 solo and 1 assisted I believe

lionalum - He knows exactly where Poz plays.
sc (Carol), made a post elsewhere that stated Poz has made 10 tackles for the Jets. Lyon was simply repeating the latest in a long line of dumbass statements by her.
