Laschout guys....intended for those of you that actually do have inside info and have been around the program for some time....how about you post an article that gives the thoughts of each person on where they see program heading, how you see the JoePa transition evolving, whether or not PSU will return to a big boy program, etc. It would be an interesting read.

bullerock - We are working on something very similar to your request, but doing so is much different than emailing a score or salary figure. Please keep in mind that because we all have jobs, family, and other obligations, Laschout is basically a hobby for us. Availability for the group at any given time, is usually quite the challenge. A good thought and request nevertheless, just please be patient.

Laschout has done a good job with predicting and breaking news during this season. Can you guys confirm or deny at all any of the coaching rumors that are flying around. Or at least make some 'predictions' for the offseason? I remember last season when it was assured Anderson was retiring. hhhhmmm....

Joe stated that everyone would be surprised at what he makes. Which leads me to believe that it would be lower than usually.

    $700,000 - $800,000

Well more than that in other areas.

No doubt he's probably closer to $2M but higher or lower wouldn't surprise me a bit especially for how long he's been there. I hope when they release his salary they also release how much money he's given back to the University in personal donations! The Paterno Library wasn't cheap!

I'm adding this post here, since I don't think I can start my own thread here. First of all Joe... makes less than 500,000 a year. The bulk of the income he makes is from speaking engagements and endorsements. He also makes some money that tied to his fund raising efforts.

I just want to talk briefly about all of the coaching changes that are being rumored on several PSU related sites. First of all, don't let anyone dissuade you of the fact that there are several members of the coaching staff that are unhappy. These guys are on the defensive side of the ball, and one coach was on the verge of resignation during the season, and had to be talked off the ledge. From what I hear, it's almost certain that Vandy will be offered a position with the U of M staff. I've heard from some people it will be ST coach, and others defensive coordinator. It will take a lot to keep him in the staff if that was to occur.. maybe promise of the D Coord position at PSU in a few years. Second, Tom will have few offers in the off season(I've heard Syracuse and UConn as possibilities), and he has been advised that he should accept one of them, by people close to him and not associated with the program. The fact is that both Golden and Schiano are the leading candidates to replace Joe. There is also some rumors about Larry Johnson getting some offers(Buffalo if Turner Gill gets the job in Nebraska).

Our coaches have had offers over the past few years, but they've stuck with the program. This year, without a clear succession strategy, and some of the things that have happened on the team... there's a very good chance a few of them accept.

Vandy,Bradley and LJ Sr. must stay....as far as I am concerned the rest can go....including the head honcho.

The only coaches worth a rat's ass are on the offensive side of the ball. I like Big Red for his recruiting efforts, and quite possible could just be coaching the wrong position. But I am excited about the prospect of someone knew coming in. Not that I expect them to be the MNC messiah, but it will be nice to see some new plays, some aggressive schemes for the first time in 25 years.

Edit my above...only coaches worth a Rat's ass are on the DEFENSIVE side of the ball....

If the defensive staff really does hit the road then Joe will have destroyed much of what he has built. A new coach will have no connection to the "Penn State way" and can take the program in any direction...unless Spanier forces them to go Ivy League.

What top coach would come here if Spanier were serious?

Wow...all of a sudden I am quite happy with 8-4...and Morelli really is a good QB!

The bulk of his compensation is paid by outside sources (booster money, Nike, Tv/Radio). My guess is that his PSU salary is around $375K +/- 10%.

In contrast Spanier's base salary is $545K and has the 3rd highest salary of any public university president. Bowden's base salary last year was around $352K.

It will surprise the heck out of me if it is over $500,00. It would not surprise if if it is some "token amount" like $1.00.

Since I have to take a single guess... my guess is $520,000. ($40K/game - 12 reg season plus 1 the bowl game).

I haven't the faintest idea what JoePa makes, bit if his (PSU) base salary IS nominal, what does that do to PSU's chances of attracting a quality replacement for him when he DOES leave? Look at some of the salaries: Nick Saban $4 Million, Bob Stoops $3.4 Million, Kirk Ferentz $2.8 Million, Pete Carroll $2.7 Million, Jim Tressel $2 million. What's the take on what the program can afford to pay out?

The program can afford anything any other program can afford. They also can afford to pay a basketball coach too. So trust me, it's not what the program can afford, it's does the Athletic Program at Penn State want to win or not.

You tell me. It's clear to me where the Athletic Dept. stands.

$1,750,000 If the total salary of the entire coaching staff is 2.75 mil then the number makes sense. If I heard 2.75 mil in error then my guess is screwed. This number is also based on the amount that he has given back to the university. I'd bet that after Nike, etc... it's somewhere around 3.5 mil but most goes to charities/clothing/etc...
