Felony Charges Dropped Against Chris Baker

Today's court session at the Centre County courthouse is still wrapping up, but preliminary reports from the courthouse say that all felony charges against Baker for his role in both Fightgate and HUB-gate were dropped, in exchange for a plea deal for lesser charges.  Baker pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of misdemeanor trespass and gets two years of probation and restitution to the victims in.

The DA continues to lead the league in career strikeouts.

Nope, no agenda....how many times does this DA need to be kicked in the nuts to atone for his "overzealous" prosecution for all things PSU Football?

I vote to allow each individual who has been subject to DA's tiresome act, get to tee of on him for each count dropped.

Thanks LO. I am just wondering how SC will spin to try and make it look like your bashing Chris Baker or PSU in some way....

Great news for Baker and PSU. Thanks for the reporting LO.

About the DA......when he figures his batting average he will count these as base hits. Just the way it is.

Isn't it standard operating procedure for a prosecutor to charge the plaintiff with the maximum and then accept a plea to lesser charges? I'm not saying this guy doesn't have a woody for the PSU football team, but I don't think the prosecutor accepting a plea bargain is viewed as a defeat in the eyes of the prosecutor.

I think the DA is ridiculous, but he actually didn't strike out here. He got a conviction. That will go down as a success in his book. Usually the overcharge, if possible, to get a plea on lesser charges.

Which is fine, except it took over a year of tax dollars spent to get nothing more than 2 years probation and a $500 fine.

actually he didn't get a "conviction". apparently you don't know the difference between a trial verdict and a plea. if you think the DA is satisfied with that outcome, then you are dreaming. all i know is that the venom will reappear in spades the next time someone boners up. wish baker all the best, but perhaps kicking him off the team would send a more valuable lesson to others? doing so before settling would have been prejudicial, but SOMEBODY has to take the fall here.

Classic. Glad to see there was finally some legal news out that prompted you guys to post again. Ever consider actually covering what is happening with the team (recruiting, position battles, etc etc) outside of the legal arena? Just curious.

I know it's asking a lot but I'd really appreciate it if you guys could find an axe to grind with respect to anything related to Penn State football. I mean a DA striking a plea bargain for lesser charges? What a scandal! Don't worry...Law & Order will shine the spotlight of justice on this outrage when they rip this one from the headlines next season.
